Whether you struggle with indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, weight gain, chronic disease, or a general confusion about what to eat; dietary counselling can have a huge impact. Small changes to what and how you eat can make a world of difference to your health and are a cornerstone of Naturopathic Medicine. I strongly believe in the philosophy of 'Food is medicine'. This does not mean I am going to ask you to cut out all of your favourite foods, but rather to take small and manageable steps to get you eating and enjoying food that makes you feel good.
The Right Diet
I truly believe that every individual is different and that there is no 'right diet' that can be applied to the entire population. That said, I promote a whole foods diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, healthy proteins, healthy fats, and lots of hydration. I work with my patients to find a way of eating that allows them to meet their individual nutritional requirements, satisfies them physically and emotionally, and is feasible for them to eat most of the time. This looks different for every single one of my patients. I recognize that eating is an emotional process for many people, and work to create healthy relationships around food.
I provide support for many patients working to plan meals. Planning pro-actively allows patients to reach for healthier choices throughout the day and makes healthy-eating more achievable and affordable.
I guide my patients so they understand what a healthy meal consists of, what to look for on an ingredients list, how to read nutrition facts, how to compare products, and how to make healthy choices consistently.
