Putting Trust in Your Body

body love

I see a lot of women in my practice who don't love their bodies.   They feel as though their body has betrayed them, which for many, it has on some level.

For some it is because of fertility challenges, for others it’s weight that won’t stay off,  it's achy joints, horrible menstrual cycles, digestive pain, body image struggles, low mood, anxiety, etc.

These things make it hard to love the body, but loving and appreciating the body goes a long way towards healing.

Don't love your body?

Start by taking a deep breath. Feel your lungs filling, your belly rising,  putting oxygen into your blood.

Now feel the pulse in your wrist. That is your heart pumping blood throughout your body.

Look at a recent cut - see how it has healed overtime, the scar starting to form.

These little pieces are incredible.

Your body is incredible.

How can we begin to appreciate our bodies more?

  • Find what makes your body feel capable - movement, deep breaths, yoga poses, floating in water, stretching, dancing, singing, massage...

  • Evaluate your internal dialogue - we should be talking to ourselves in a way we would talk to a loved one!

  • Find ways to add laughter to life - laughter makes our bodies feel good

  • What is special about your body or what is special about you as a person? Reflect on these things.

Some statements I often share with patients:

  • My body deserves love and respect

  • I am perfectly imperfect.

  • I love my body

  • I am full of possibility.

  • I am worthy.

  • I am comfortable in my own skin.

  • My body shows me it's power.

  • I am allowed to take up space.

  • I am allowed to feel good about myself.

  • I thank food for nourishing me.

  • I am ready to release the stories in my head and forgive myself for believing my inner critic.

  • I take care of my body by doing _____

Your body is an incredible vessel and it has the ability to heal!
