How Setting Boundaries Creates Space for Change

One of my patients and I had a conversation this past week about her goals in her return to work in September.  After a summer of rest and clarity, her goals were to:

  • Move consistently

  • Prep lunches in advance

  • Set healthier boundaries at work

We often talk about nutrition and movement as if they’re stand-alone goals. But the truth is, boundaries are what make space for all of them. Without boundaries, we run out of time, energy, and capacity— the very things needed to make meaningful lifestyle changes.

Boundaries create capacity to achieve goals.

Changing nutrition and movement takes work: planning, decision-making, willpower, time. Capacity doesn’t magically appear; it’s created when we protect it.  If work emails bleed into your evenings, if family demands override your own self-care, if your calendar is booked wall to wall — it’s not a lack of motivation holding you back. It’s a lack of boundaries.

So if you're serious about making change, ask yourself this first:

Where do I need to draw a line, so I can build something better on the other side?

How can I preserve my capacity to achieve my goals?

Is there a ball I need to drop?

Let’s set you up for a great fall

I love hearing about and supporting you in your goals, and most of my job is about the HOW.

Let’s dig deep and talk about boundaries to support you in this next season of the year!

Hi, I’m Dr. Janine, ND

I’m a Naturopathic Doctor currently practicing in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

I truly believe that our enjoyment of life is closely tied to how we feel physically. When we’re healthy, we can take on anything. But when we feel off, even the simplest tasks become overwhelming. I’ve been through hormonal shifts, sleepless nights as a parent, and the stress of balancing everything. But I also know that with the right strategy, we can go from surviving to thriving—and create a healthy, thriving family in the process.

I look forward to meeting you soon.
