The world of health advice can be overwhelming. One minute, you’re reading a well-researched article, the next, you’re bombarded with conflicting opinions from your doctor, social media influencers, friends, and even targeted ads. No wonder it feels like a maze! 😵💫
What is health paralysis?
When confusion sets in, it often leads to paralysis—meaning you just don’t do anything at all. I hear statements that are meant to be comforting, but just keeping pushing further and further away from your health goals. l
Statements like:
👉“I don’t know what exercise to do, so I just don’t exercise.”
👉“I’m unsure what protein powder is best, so I just don’t take any.”
👉“I heard soy causes breast cancer, so I’m avoiding soy protein, even though I’m vegan.”
👉“I’m not sure if I can take iron with my SSRI, so I’m not taking it, even though I’m iron deficient.”
👉“I’ve heard lectins can damage my gut, so I stopped eating legumes.”
👉“I know friends who lost weight eating lower-carb, so I cut out oats and berries.
Sound familiar? It’s easy to get caught in the web of confusing, ever-changing advice.
my answer: keep it simple
Here’s the thing: health doesn’t have to be as complicated as it seems.
Here’s 4 ways that you can cut through the noise:
1️⃣The Best Exercise Is the One You’ll Actually Do. Whether it’s a walk, a dance class, or lifting weights, the key is consistency. Find something you enjoy and stick with it. Exercise shouldn’t feel like a chore—it should feel like a choice that makes you feel good.
2️⃣Sleep Is Non-Negotiable. Your body needs rest to repair, rejuvenate, and keep your mind sharp. Prioritize your sleep and make it a non-negotiable part of your routine.
3️⃣Whole Foods Are Always a Good Choice. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats are packed with nutrients your body needs. Focus on a variety of whole foods to fuel your body. The more colorful your plate, the better!
4️⃣Stay Hydrated. Water is vital for every process in your body. Drink enough to stay hydrated, but listen to your body—it will tell you when it needs more!
Navigating the Nuance:
While those are great foundational principles, I know some health decisions are trickier. And when you’re facing nuanced health questions or trying to figure out what’s best for you, that’s where I come in. You don’t have to tackle it all alone!
The health space is full of “gray areas,” and sometimes, it’s about finding what works for your body. So, if you’re feeling stuck or unsure about what to do next, don’t hesitate to reach out. Let’s take the confusion out of your health journey and find the solutions that work best for you.
Remember: Keep it simple, stay hydrated, move your body, and rest up. Everything else is just details—and I’ve got your back when it comes to those.

Hi, I’m Dr. Janine, ND
I’m a Naturopathic Doctor currently practicing in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
I truly believe that our enjoyment of life is closely tied to how we feel physically. When we’re healthy, we can take on anything. But when we feel off, even the simplest tasks become overwhelming. I’ve been through hormonal shifts, sleepless nights as a parent, and the stress of balancing everything. But I also know that with the right strategy, we can go from surviving to thriving—and create a healthy, thriving family in the process.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
