2 Key Signs of Perimenopause to Watch For—and How to Manage Them

Perimenopause – the time when your body is transitioning into menopause – can feel like a whirlwind. It’s a natural phase of life, but that doesn’t mean it’s always smooth sailing. As ovulation becomes less consistent, estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate, leading to the erratic symptoms many experience. Here's a breakdown of what’s happening and how we can help!

What is Perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the stage when ovulation becomes unpredictable, and with it, hormone levels become a bit of a rollercoaster. Egg quantity and quality decrease with age, and this transition is a normal part of the aging process.

Signs to Look Out For:

  • 📆Cycle Changes: Menstrual cycles may become shorter, longer, or change in intensity. A shift by a week or more could indicate you’re entering perimenopause.

  • 🩸Irregular Bleeding: Some cycles, you’ll ovulate; others, you won’t. Without ovulation, bleeding patterns can become erratic, and cycles might seem completely out of sync.

How Does Perimenopause Affect Your Symptoms? Your symptoms can vary drastically from month to month:

With Ovulation: Expect more classic premenstrual symptoms like mood swings, bloating, and breast tenderness.

Without Ovulation: You might experience more “menopausal” symptoms like hot flashes, insomnia, joint pain, and vaginal dryness.

How Long Does Perimenopause Last?

Unfortunately, there’s no clear timeline for when perimenopause will end or how long it will last. But one thing’s for sure: it’s a unique experience for every person.

And remember, together, we can help! While we can’t stop the transition, we can certainly help you manage it. Whether it's managing those pesky premenstrual symptoms, reducing the effects of hot flashes, or addressing iron deficiency – you don’t have to navigate this alone.
