As we enter a new year which is often filled with new goals and intentions, I encourage you to keep this in mind.
Where can you eliminate decisions?
We use the same part of our brain to make decisions, remember things, have willpower, and stay calm. If you’re struggling with rage, brain fog, anxiety, low motivation or burnout then we want to PRESERVE your brainpower as much as possible to manage those other components and have more left in the tank. Eliminating decisions is a really helpful way to do this.
Eliminating decisions is also a powerful way of achieving health goals.
What does this look like in life?
Let’s get into it!
What Does Eliminating Decisions Look Like In Real Life?
Honestly, it still feels like there are a million decisions to make sometimes, but having these in place significantly decreases the overwhelm and subsequent frustration.
It also leaves things like movement and nutrition way less susceptible to chance.
What it looks like at meal time:
It’s having a master meal list with all go-to dinners to decrease the dinner decisions.
It’s having the same breakfast every weekday and a different but the same one every weekend.
It’s ordering groceries from the same store at a similar time most weekends.
what it looks like during “me” time:
It’s going to the same 2 gym classes every week with alarms to remind me to register.
It’s having a downtime limits on my phone.
what it looks like to my family:
It’s telling my kids that we walk to school regardless of weather so it doesn’t need to be a choice.
It’s making the same breakfast every time we visit family.
It’s giving the kids’ teachers the same Christmas presents every year.
It’s having set chores for the kids.
It’s trying to create consistent schedules as much as possible week to week so my partner and I know who’s driving whom where.
It’s knowing what things in the house I’m responsible for maintaining and which things are for my partner and kids.
what about you?
Are there ways you can reduce your decisions to preserve your brain power? What can that leave you with capacity to do in relation to your intentions or goals for 2026?
And remember, always reach out if you need support!

Hi, I’m Dr. Janine, ND
I’m a Naturopathic Doctor currently practicing in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
I truly believe that our enjoyment of life is closely tied to how we feel physically. When we’re healthy, we can take on anything. But when we feel off, even the simplest tasks become overwhelming. I’ve been through hormonal shifts, sleepless nights as a parent, and the stress of balancing everything. But I also know that with the right strategy, we can go from surviving to thriving—and create a healthy, thriving family in the process.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
