The solution for burnout is not doing more
The demands and expectations of life, family and work are high, and support is often low. As such, burnout has emerged as a significant health concern, especially post-pandemic.
Burnout often presents similarly to depression and shows up as overwhelm, exhaustion, and limited mental, physical and emotional capacity as a result of chronic stress.
One of the best solutions for burnout is rest and recovery.
This means prioritizing sleep, and prioritizing pauses in the day to regroup. We’re trying to take things away to allow time for that rest, not add in more.
That means that nutrition-wise - we will often lean on the most basic options. We’re often just trying to EAT versus eat really well.
We might decrease your exercise frequency and/or intensity; or even stop exercising altogether to build in time for rest.
We’re trying to preserve your mental capacity for important things like boundary setting, rather than remembering to take a whole bunch of supplements.
It can feel difficult to do this sometimes when we’ve been taught that exercise and nutrition are so important for your health, but we need to build capacity for those things first!
