Optimizing Your Healthcare Plan: What Efficiency Looks Like and Why It’s Important
This blog post is a little more of a personal letter directly to my patients. I hope you read along!
As the oldest of four and the daughter of two first-generation Dutch immigrants, efficiency has always been a core value for me.
While I’ve worked hard to incorporate more rest and relaxation into my life, I still bring that same efficient mindset to my work as a Naturopathic Doctor every day!
This being said, my goal is always to get you results quickly and effectively. That's why I prioritize ongoing education and invest in tools and software that keep me up-to-date with the latest research and care standards.
Our understanding of the human body is constantly evolving, and you deserve care based on the most current knowledge, not outdated information.
Efficiency means a lot of things to both me and my patients. From lab work to habit building, it’s a crucial skill to master, so you’re not overwhelmed by endless appointments, endless questions, and second-guessing everything you find online.
So, what does efficiency look like in action?! Here’s some examples:
👉Lab Work: Efficiency means I’ll order bloodwork when needed, helping to eliminate guesswork and pinpoint what’s happening in your body.
👉Habit Building: Efficiency also means we’re building habits that will last a lifetime. We know “diets” don’t work in the long run, but simple, sometimes basic principles like consistent protein at breakfast can make a significant difference. Once that habit is in place, we can build on it and get more specific.
👉Protein Intake: Efficiency means I don’t care where you get that protein from—whether it’s free-range organic eggs or protein powder—I just want you to get it.
👉Supplementation: Efficiency means I might tell you to skip a supplement if there’s no research to back it up. I don’t want you wasting money or mental energy on something that won’t benefit you.
👉Medication: Efficiency also means that if we’re not seeing the progress we want, I’ll recommend medication if it’s the faster, more effective option for you.
Ultimately, efficiency means we’re focused on the simplest interventions that can create the biggest changes in your life.
